It's about the eggs - Update

When I got home last night, I was determined to get rid of the smoky/burnt egg smell that was still lingering from the great egg experiment of the night before. I am one that CANNOT stand odd smells, especially those involving fire/smoke. So, I was on a mission.

Step one was to open every window in the house and turn the fans on full blast... as well as the fan for the ac and the fans in the bathrooms (employing all available power to get the smell out as fast as possible). I removed the mats from the kitchen and put them in the washer with soap and vinegar. While they ran, I mopped the floors in the bathrooms, kitchen and foyer. Then I thought, "Hey, you might as well clean the bathrooms if you're going to clean the floors." So I cleaned the two spare bathrooms.

After the bathrooms were sufficiently sparkly, I turned my attention to cleaning the carpet upstairs... I just sprinkled smelly good odor fighter stuff and then vacuumed it up... but that helped. Then, the furniture had to be tended to.... I'd tried Febreeze fabric fresh... and All fabric fresh, neither really got the smoky smell out. So, I turned to my faithful friend vinegar.

I have a bottle of a 50/50 mix of water vinegar that I use to clean windows... so I let loose the wrath of the vinegar and water on the furniture. After it dried, I sprayed the smelly good Glade fabric fresh stuff on it... and voila! It was again normal smelling! Yay!!

This morning, I took the window treatements down in the kitchen and dining room. They will be washed tonight, along with the door panel treatments in the foyer, in vinegar and woolite... and rehung. The last bit will be the window treatments in the living room and bedroom. Perhaps I will find time to attend to their needs tonight or tomorrow. Then the house will again be right.

(For those that have never thought of vinegar as being a great household cleaner... it is. You can mix with water and a little bit of soap and it's a great shower cleaner - it takes soap scum off lickety split. Mixed with only water, it is great for cleaning windows and mirrors; I prefer to use newspaper with my vinegar elixer on the windows - no residue. And no, it does not leave a vinegar smell. The scent evaporates... everything seems to come off easier when vinegar is involved because of the acid in the vinegar. Try it - it's cheaper than the "go green" cleaners... and most other cleaners. [It even works really well on hair as a grime cutter or to get the smell of smoke/cigarette smoke out].)
